The £2.4m Queens Avenue Lane design and build contract was constructed in Thornaby on behalf of Karbon Homes.
The site at Queens Avenue was identified by the Gus Robinson Developments Team within an area of Thornaby where affordable housing was in short supply. The team worked with Local Authority housing experts and the Local Planning Authority to understand the need in the area before then identifying Karbon Homes as a potential partner with whom to work with on the project.
The new housing development was constructed within a former car park of Thornaby Aerodrome Club. This provided a test for the Gus Robinson team to provide proposals which responded to the constraints of the existing site.
The team worked closely with Karbon Homes and the Local Planning Authority to come up with a mix of 21 high specification 2- and 3-bedroom homes on the site, with plans submitted to Stockton Borough Council on 4th September 2018 and approval following on 19th December 2018. Work commenced on site on 8th April 2019 and was completed within the client’s budget by 12th June 2020 despite the challenges faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns throughout the construction period.
