The Telegraph Business Club sought national companies who had a unique story to tell, with a view to making these successful business stories into a video. They approached Gus Robinson Developments as they felt our story was indeed unique, and fitted their remit perfectly.

The video maps the history of the Company; from the early days, to where we are now and what we hope to achieve in the future – and it also gives an insight into what we perceive to be the key to our success.

There are several interviews within the video, ranging from Clients, End Users/Tenants and Employees, together with personal statements from Dan and Gus Robinson.

Hartlepool – Tall Ships 2010

Friday, August 20th, 2010

Gus Robinson Developments Limited would like to congratulate everyone involved in bringing the Tall Ships 2010 event to Hartlepool. The 4-day event was a massive success, with Hartlepool Mail reporting close to one million visitors to the Town, generating an estimated £16m in revenue.

With an event of this magnitude there were bound to be some niggles, but these were minimal. In fact there was adequate parking, all walking routes were clearly marked and Hartlepool was more than able to accommodate the number of visitors. All of the traffic through the town was kept to a steady flow and diversions were kept to a minimum, which ensured the town didn’t come to a standstill as some pessimists were predicting pre-event. Taking all the aforementioned ‘plus points’ into account it is evident that the event organisers have done themselves and the Town proud, hopefully this will be taken into consideration when Hartlepool apply to hold the event again.

Aside from the Tall Ships, many visitors also came to see a host of bands that were playing throughout the event. Many local bands were playing and some big names also made an appearance, with the likes of Ocean Colour Scene, Echo and the Bunnymen and The Doves to name a few. There was also a World Market, numerous parades and many theatrical performances during the course of the event, ensuring that there was continual entertainment taking place – and catering for a wide variety of tastes.

Gus Robinson Developments Limited hope Hartlepool are successful in bringing the Tall Ships back to the Town, or at least are able to organise an annual event of similar sorts, as obviously this can only be good for the Town’s reputation and it’s people.

GRD – Academic Roundup 2010

Friday, August 13th, 2010

It has been another successful academic year for Gus Robinson Developments Limited (GRD), a year that sees five employees completing their apprenticeship and a further three employees successfully attaining degrees.

Our three newest time-served Electricians are Michael Hadfield, Mark Raine, Chris Thomas and Sean Eddy and Kris Marley are this year’s Plumbing representatives. All five lads are ‘Hartlepool Born and Breed’ and all studied at Hartlepool College of Further Education as part of our ongoing partnership with the college.

On the degree front Matthew Jowsey and Matthew Palmer both completed their BSC Honours in Quantity Surveying, which they studied at Northumbria University and Luke Hopkins attained his degree in Business Management, which he studied at Durham University. The two Matthew’s are currently enjoying a well earned break from their studies and are all looking forward to attending their Graduation Day. There is no rest for Luke, who is already embarking on the next step of the ladder and is currently working towards his professional CIMA qualification.

It has been an outstanding year for Kris Marley, who enjoyed further success when he was named as the Plumbing Apprentice of the Year by Hartlepool College of Further Education. The top ten award winners were entered into a national competition where they competed for the National Plumbing Apprentice of the Year Award. Kris did himself, and the company, proud with a very respectable 3rd place, this makes him eligible for the World Finals to be held next year. Kris’s hard work has not gone unnoticed with Kris being awarded the Gus Robinson Developments Limited – “Employee of the Month” award for July, well done Kris, don’t spend your winnings all in one go!

GRD have been Investors in People accredited since 1991, an accolade that is fitting to our training culture and the belief we have in our employees, whom we deem to be our greatest asset. As one batch of students qualify and progress through the company, GRD turns its attention to the next intake of trainees and apprentices; this is a system that has served the company and the local community proud for over 3 decades.
