Integration & Collaborative Working – Albany Court, Hartlepool

Following a great night at the prestigious ‘Constructing Excellence in the North East (CENE) Awards 2010’ we are extremely proud to announce that Gus Robinson Developments Limited (GRD), in partnership with Housing Hartlepool won the ‘Integration & Collaborative Working’ award for the refurbishment scheme at Albany Court.

Whilst the terrific working relationship between ourselves and Housing Hartlepool was acknowledged, great accord was given to the fact that the elderly tenants also remained in residence at all times whilst the £3.2m phased renovation works were carried out. This recognised that the end-users were also integral in helping achieve this award. This had also previously been noted by John Healey, the Housing Minister, who had visited the complex whilst works were ongoing.

The refurbishment of the complex now incorporates underfloor and air source heating, solar panels and rainwater harvesting which together with upgrades and alterations has vastly improved living conditions for this close-knit group of residents, as well as significantly reducing the environmental footprint of the building.

The award is a true testimony to our commitment to partnering and the quality service that we provide our clients.

As stated on the night “Judges looked for evidence of how workforce development has improved as a result of collaboration, long-term relationships and common processes and tools across organisations. Successful entries have shown the judges integration within their teams to such a level that they appear as a single entity to the customer, and evidence of how workforce development has improved as a result of collaboration.” – Twenty Ten Awards Programme

There was fierce competition within the Integration & Collaborative Working category, comprising a total of 10 nominated projects throughout the North East. As winners of this prestigious award the team will now progress to the national finals that are due to take place in the Autumn of 2010.

We are currently working on a similar scheme at Richard Court in Hartlepool for Housing Hartlepool, utilising the same collaborative approach to ensure that this sheltered housing complex is also an unrivalled success.

Dan Robinson, Chairman said:

“During our 37 years in business we have trained hundreds of people from Hartlepool.  We have always believed in encouraging our employees to achieve their full potential – this is our core DNA and is not driven by government targets.

Over the years we have received many accolades and awards in recognition of our community involvement and commitment to training. We are delighted to have won the Tees Valley Apprenticeship Programme’s “Outstanding Contribution to Apprenticeships” award 2011/2012; which was a posthumous award given to my father, Gus Robinson MBE, for his commitment to apprenticeships throughout his years in business.  We have always stressed the importance of training and education – and shaped the lives of many young people in ways that they will carry with them forever.

We are one of the few company’s that still believe in the value of apprenticeship schemes and the continual training and improvement of our people – we also recognise the importance of our existing employees transferring their skills and expertise to young, upcoming talent to ensure the future success of the company”.

Dan Robinson launches the Gus Robinson Foundation

Monday, February 27th, 2012

Gus Robinson Developments Ltd has launched a rolling, long term £10,000-a-year scholarship programme with Hartlepool College of Further Education.

The innovative scheme heralds the formation of the Gus Robinson Foundation, which is being developed into a charitable arm of the company.

The Scholarship awards will be broken down across a range of subjects and has been developed as a partnership between HCFE and GRD.

There will be £1,000 for the college’s Apprentice of The Year and £1,000 for Sporting Achievement tied in with the Hartlepool Sporting Association and the Aerospace programme. Also, £500 cadetships will go to two students at the end of year one of their studies followed by a £2,000 scholarship award offered at the end of year two, to support the winner through a degree programme.

The other £5,000 will be used to facilitate foreign study visits. It is aimed at broadening the horizons of students and giving them access to international experiences.

Dan Robinson, Chairman, said “the company is determined to support local students to develop leading edge skills that will allow them to flourish in a global economy. This company is committed to the local community – that is our core DNA. We are passionate about people being able to express themselves and compete at every level”.

Michael Bretherick, Principle of HCFE is delighted by the initiative, “There’s never been anything like this before. The college is committed to internationalism and that is shared by Gus Robinson Developments. We both recognise that people are growing up in a global economy and a lot of the scholarship money will allow students to go on foreign visits. For example, aerospace students could go to the Airbus factory in Toulouse, while business students could go to Wall Street and motor vehicle students to the SEAT factory in Barcelona. It is a ground-breaking scheme and will give students opportunities they might never have gotten the chance to enjoy.” “With the legacy of Gus and the energy of Dan we are able to give students opportunities not available anywhere else”.

As part of the scheme all study groups will be invited to put forward a bid for funding for overseas study visits and they will be judged by a Dragon’s Den-style panel. The first awards are expected to be given out in the Autumn.
