As part of Gus Robinson Developments Limited commitment to the local community and local employment, we offer work experience placements to all of the local secondary schools within Hartlepool. Given our belief in the town and its people, these placements give pupils a good insight into any futures careers that they are considering. In April 2010 the latest group of pupils came from English Martyrs School. Several pupils were site based and one office based – a young man called Gene Ceguera.
Gene spent a week at Gus Robinson Developments Limited (GRD) within the Estimating and Quantity Surveying section. With Gene being the quick learner that he is, he was soon made aware of the tradition that pupils who come to GRD offices, bring cakes into work on their last day.
Running with the tradition, Gene, who hopes to have a career as an architect, quickly set about his cake making plan. As any budding executive would, he subcontracted the cake making contract out to his two younger sisters (Nicole and Maria), who worked to his design.
After days of teasing and taunting the staff about the project, Gene unveiled the master piece as promised (and on deadline!!!) to the GRD staff. As you can see below, the staff had to pause and contemplate whether to cut into the cake or place it in a glass housing to preserve for eternity…

….after a whole 3 minutes of deliberation the cake was cut, divided, shared and eaten quicker than a round of ‘Hungry Hippo’s’. Gene’s cake scored a collective nine out of ten from the judges; It would have been a perfect ten if he could have “iced in” the following:
“Gus Robinson Developments – Building & Civils, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical and Sustainable Homes”
We enjoyed Gene’s company nearly as much as we did his cake. With his initiative, intelligence and personality we are sure he will make it in the career of his choice, but failing that he may have to settle for a job with his sisters’ inevitable future company, ‘Ceguera Cakes’.
Gus Robinson Developments Limited would like to wish Gene luck in all his future studies.
